CHARIS Asia Official Continental Service of Communion • Canonical Status

The canonical identity, institutional structure, and Vatican mandate of CHARIS Asia as the official continental organism of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal across Asia and the Arabian Gulf.

CHARIS Asia is the Continental Service of Communion for Asia within CHARIS – Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service. CHARIS serves the Catholic Charismatic Renewal as a service of communion established through the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life of the Holy See.

Canonical Identity: What is CHARIS?

CHARIS (Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service) is not a governing body with administrative authority over individual expressions, but a Service of Communion. It was erected at the express desire of Pope Francis, with general statutes promulgated on December 8, 2018 by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, coming into full canonical effect on the Solemnity of Pentecost, June 9, 2019.

In accordance with its Holy See statutes, CHARIS replaced the two previous international organisms recognized by the Holy See: ICCRS (International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services) and the Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships. CHARIS brought together all expressions of the Current of Grace into a single service of communion.
